When you work online within the IM Business how often do you get interrogated by people asking what you do and how much money you earn. I’m sure you could think of at least twenty examples of just that. I often find that those that have a fat pension look down on you and those with less money than you find it very hard to believe you.
How do you explain what you do to people that have NEVER heard of internet marketing? – I’d love to hear your views!
I’ve recently moved to The Algarve so that as a family we can enjoy our lives a little better and escape the hassles of England. The other evening I was out for dinner with my parents, another couple and a couple I’d never met before. The new couple that I’ve never met before asked me several questions about my income and I still felt that firstly they didn’t understand at all what I did and secondly that I was below them because even though I have a fantastic degree I was still way below them in class.
I was waiting for them to say that I would NEVER make a living online or I want to see your bank statements when my mum gave a brilliant line for what we do. She said my daughter “creates Electronic learning books for others” after all when we knock it down this is exactly what we do. I’ll defiantly remember this for when I next have too much wine and I’m involved in another one of these awkward situations.
The truth is we are all noisy and as soon as you touch on the subject “I work on the internet” everybody wants to know exactly what we do. If I had said we run a bar in The Algarve there faces would have lit up. But the truth is why you would want that. Why would I want to work at least 6 days a week in a saturated market for very little rewards?
The truth is I’m very happy with what I do and even though I put in effort when I’m launching a new product the rest of the time I take it easy and enjoy quality of life with my husband and seven year old son.
When I get hassled by others about what I do for a living I simply remember that there is a lot of money to be made on the internet. This is a true fact otherwise why are all these international companies going to the effort of putting their businesses online?
I used to sell an awful amount of items on EBay and pay their ridiculous sellers fees until I saw sense. But if I was doing this now least you can say “I sell books on EBay” and that would be that – but at the end of the day I’d rather make a serious income.
The truth is I will never let these types of people bring me down after all if they want to slave away working 9 to 5 plus overtime then let them.
After all I KNOW who the real winner will be!
We deserve BETTER than this and I believe they call it FREEDOM!
Remember just stay silent and secretly build your empire of income streams!

You are spot on with this post. My late father bless him never unserstood it either and spent most of his later years quizzing me about when i was going to get “a real job” or what where the plans for my life.
He never once understood it – even though i felt like screaming every time he asked me!
We may have to deal with this question several times over in our lifetime. But ask yourself this question would you rather get the hassle or work for the minimum wage in a dead end job.

God you have just unleashed the question that everyone is sick of being asked!
I live in the south of france with my fiancee of 3yrs + no matter where we are we also get interrogated.
I am in my 30’s and so is my girl and whenever i say i make my living online via internet marketing always get a puzzled luck.
However if id said we had a bar i would have got a congrats and a smile. Even though the latter is a lot harder to do!
Its a shame it has to be like this!
